Acts 4:13, “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” (NIV)

Matthew 9:9, “As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth.” (NIV)

Matthew 9:9, “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.” (NIV)

Matthew 9:10, “While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house,” (NIV)

Matthew 9:10-11, “many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” (NIV)

Matthew 9:12, “On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” (NIV)

Matthew 9:13, “But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’” (NIV)

Matthew 9:13, “For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (NIV)

Luke 18:10-14, “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ 13 But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ 14 I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (NIV)

3 Reasons Jesus’ Invitation is Revolutionary:

  • His invitation is to a RELATIONSHIP
  • His invitation is to SINNERS
  • His invitation leads to SACRIFICE

John 15:12-13, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (NIV)
